GOALS:

The course has been designed to put more emphasis on the basics of English language. The students should be motivated to improve their ability to interact as well as communicate in English fluently. They are made to improve their understanding of written texts as well as spoken language. Integration of skills has been made the target to achieve the goals. So, all the skills like Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and, of course, Grammar have been made focal points of teaching & learning.


OBJECTIVES:

The students are required:

  1. To read the provided short written texts to enhance their reading ability in reduced accent. To read and learn about life, work, countries, languages and nationalities.
  2. To write & describe about jobs, places, houses, rooms, lanes and give directions of a route/street etc.
  3. To listen carefully from tapes to extract ideas and then communicate.
  4. To speak about things of interests, future plans, likes & dislikes, foods and drinks and so on.
  5. To learn sentence structure, verb to be, possessives, articles, countable &

 

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Students are expected to attend all classes. There are four hours of class everyday in three sessions: two hours for the course book, one hour for grammar and writing and one hour for listening and speaking.
  • A DN will be awarded for 21 missing classes if there is no acceptable excuse.
  • Students are expected to attend all classes with text & workbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils erasers and files

TEXTBOOKS:

1-       Interchange 3rd  edition; (Beginner / Elementary) (Book 1) By Jack C. Richards – Cambridge University Press. Student's book & workbook.

                                                                                                 

PARTICIPATION & ASSESSMENT:

  • Participation: Students are required to attend their classes fully prepared to participate in discussion and contribute to pair work, and complete all HW on scheduled time.
  • Conference: Students are required to attend all teacher-student conferences to discuss progress in class to get recommendations for further efforts and actions.
  • Evaluation: There will be a Mid-Term examination (20%), Final examination (30%) and Teacher Evaluation of (20%) consists of two quizzes, HW assignments and class participation. There will be separate Listening/Speaking tests for (15%) and Grammar/Writing tests for (15%). At least 60% is required to pass the Final examination to get to the next level.

 

STUDENT'S REQUIRMENTS:

  • Arrive in the classroom on time.
  • Be well prepared for your class by doing HW/Assignments.
  • Pay complete attention to your teacher.
  • Be ready to learn by asking relevant questions.
  • Participate in the classroom activities.
  • Seek help from your teacher when you face any problem.
  • Be polite, humble, courteous and honest to your work.
  • Respect your teachers & your classmates.
  • Be confident of your learning & show your satisfaction.
  • Speak English while you are in the campus.
  • Must bring your books, notebooks, pens, pencils, eraser & sharpener.
